Dogs Brave Heat to Raise Funds for Needy Friends
Jul 4, 2008Pet Doctors Veterinary Clinic staff and clients from Shalford braved one of the hottest days of the year, in July, to raise funds for local charity Dogs in Need. Veterinary nurses Claire Marlow and Leanne Millard, veterinary surgeon Louise Ketteridge and receptionist Clare Harris organized a sponsored dog walk around the countryside near Shalford.
Enjoying the walkDespite the heat and armed with plenty of water for walkers and dogs alike, several clients and their dogs joined the staff.
Water stops were provided along the way with arrows set up to direct people in the right direction and through as much shade as possible. The hour-long walk went up and down hills with lovely views, through the forest, along the valley and through the cornfields ending in Clare Harris' garden. Here, the staff had set up a marquee providing everyone with cakes, crisps and soft drinks, the cakes being donated by clients.
Cooling down at the end of the walk!"Although it was hot, we had a lovely day and fun on the way too, " said Leanne.
"One of the Westies found it all a bit too much and was carried for most of the walk. Two dogs decided to run off in the opposite direction and would only come back when bribed with biscuits and one of our poor clients somehow managed to lose us and took 2 ½ hours to catch us up!" continued Claire.
Having collected all the sponsorship money in, Claire, Leanne, Louise and Clare were delighted to visit Dogs in Need recently to present them with a cheque for £384.
