Lungworm - A New Threat to Pet Health
Jul 6, 2008
As you are no doubt aware, fleas are not only a nuisance to your pet and to you, they can also cause serious health problems. Dogs and cats can also be infected with worms which cause illness, loss of weight, poor coat and diarrhoea. Even healthy looking pets are likely to have some worms, which in turn can be passed onto people, potentially leading to serious illness. Risks to humans include Toxocariasis which, transmitted by roundworm eggs, can cause blindness.
In the U.K, there is now a new threat to pet health in the form of lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum). This parasite is of particular concern to dogs as it potentially fatal. All dogs are at risk and the parasite is often transmitted when pets come into contact with slugs and snails. Although found nationally, lungworm is particularly common in our area.
Fleas, Worms, Mites and Biting Lice - dealt with in one convenient spot-on.
Due to the risk posed by fleas, worms and in particular lungworm, Pet Doctors are now pleased to be able to offer our clients Advocate, an innovative spot-on product which helps protect against these unwelcome guests. The product is the most comprehensive in terms of the parasites it kills including fleas, worms and mites.
Why is monthly flea and worm control so important?
Preventing flea infestation through monthly treatment means avoiding a problem in the first place. As this product also kills many worms, regular monthly application is advisable to kill them before they lay eggs and cause your pet any further harm. For these reasons, we now recommend Advocate – a simple to use, monthly application. In case you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any member of the practice staff.
Let’s make parasite protection easy for you and your pet!
